The Kennebec Journal and Morning Sentinel newspapers seek an accomplished copydesk chief to edit stories as the primary night editor, oversee the flow and design of print pages, think of ways we can tell stories with digital elements such as video, slideshows and databases, and assist in the development of local enterprise coverage.
Qualifications include the ability to:
perform second edits of all local copy and photo cutlines, making sure they are accurate, well written, and complete; direct stories and photos for print and online at CentralMaine.com; make sure deadlines are met and story headlines are accurate and compelling; and attend regular enterprise story development meetings for long-range coverage. The copydesk chief also treats late-breaking news with urgency and enthusiasm.
The job requires excellent writing and editing skills with a proven ability to work with reporters and editors, maintaining high standards of journalism and professionalism.
Daily newspaper experience in a supervisory capacity is required.
